love guitar...?

Thursday, June 22 by Mark

steve hillage - palm trees (love guitar)

first track im posting up is by steve hillage and is called 'palm trees (love guitar)'.........and as the picture shows, he clearly does....
iv'e had the 'green' album for ages now, but nearly always play out the 'unidentified (flying being)' track......however, after having the album on play today, i thought id share a different track with you instead...................'palm trees (love guitar)' is a wicked spaced out, end of night jam, with loads of synth, arp, and funnily enough, guitars......

roxy music - stronger through the years

second up is a roxy music track from the 'manifesto' album......picked this up today for a pricey 20p from my local help the aged boutique.......i knew most of the tracks off this album already due to having most of the singles on 12"........however, had not heard this one before, and rather enjoyed it.....'stronger through the years'..............

karen o & squeak e. clean - hello tomorrow (mp3)

yeah yeah yeahs - hyperballad (mp3)

to tey and keep up some sort of regular posting, i'm aiming for more music with less chatter, so i'll be brief (altough I must say it's nice to see mark back!). in honour of "show your bones", which is destined to be an album of the year come december, i thought i'd pick out two yeah yeah yeahs tracks.

the first one may be familiar to many telly addicts, as it was featured in an semi-recent adidas commercial directed by karen o's ex, spike jonze, and is apparently a taster of what is to come from her long-mooted solo-project. the second track is a cover of one of my favourite bjork tracks, taken from her second album "post".

"show your bones" is still for sale in all good rekid shops, and new single "turn into" came out yesterday. buy here.

rusty squeezebox...?

Sunday, June 18 by Mark

who ever knew that naked accordian playing could be so much fun, not me.....so in honour of this extremley fun looking past time, a couple of squeezebox themed tracks shall follow...............

doctor rockit - cafe de flore

first up is another one of my all time favourites........the classic 'cafe de flore' track is mathew herbert producing under one of his many alter ego's, this one being doctor rockit.......most of you probably know this record already, as it has appeared on countless, run of the mill 'chill out' albums.....however its an awesome track, with mr herbert actually playing the accordian himself (naked apparently...), if you buy the original 12", there is an equally as awesome charles webster remix on the flip....

bliss - manvantara

second up is another accordian themed track, this one being from bliss on the never easy to get hold of music for dreams label (why oh why were those danish 12", so frickin hard to get hold of???).......the track is called 'manvantara' and is a 11 minute balearic-athon with some high octane squeezebox action kicking in nearer the end of the track.................

hope you enjoy....

3's a crowd...

after 6 months since my last post i thought it was only right for me to get the posts backup and running again, be it for a very short time only....

so to try and clear my backlog of missed posts and my reputation as a good for nothing layabout, i am going to put up three tracks at one time......all are ‘yousendit’ files so as not to disturb our delicate bandwidth...

first one is an oldie but a goodie.......master of the trumpet herb alpert, steps up with the much played classic balearic track, rotation......perfect for that brief summer weather we are getting right now......(big ‘muchos thanks’ to paul for giving me a copy of this the other week……;-) )
file under: band camp disco

herb alpert - rotation

second up is a new one from ‘a mountain of one’ and is called ‘warping of the clock’......to be honest i could have picked any track of this 12” because they are all fuckin ace, i just closed my eyes and pointed at the titles, and this is what you got.........most of you are probably on to this already, but if not, why not...buy here or here
file under: must buy

a mountain of one - warping of the clock

third up is one of my all time fave tracks from the moustachioed legend that is giorgio moroder......i have been meaning to put this tune up since we started the blog....... ‘evolution’ is a 15 minute epic that does exactly what it says....it just evolves and evolves into a spooky space disco epic........just love this tune, the more i hear the better it gets, also comes with awesome space erotica artwork........come on im not the only one who thinks she is hot....am i ????
file under: cosmic mowser

giorgio moroder - evolution

anyway enjoy the tracks, and fingers crossed ill be posting more tomorrow…(kev, one everyday(ish) until i go away, scouts honour)

a thing of pure beauty

the beauty room - holding on (mp3)

sorry for the hiatus, but it's been a hell of a month. we had some serious issues with bandwidth last month, had to take all the music down for a while, and it's taken a while to get back on our feet. this is coupled with the fact that i normally write these posts on my lunch hour sat at my desk, and with temperatures in work now hitting 36°C (that's about 97°F for you folks in the States) and woefully inadequate ventilation, i've been escaping the "sauna" at lunch for pastures cooler, hence the lack of postings in the last few weeks.

but you'll be glad to know i haven't just been sitting around! mark is off travelling in a few weeks, so i've been lining up an all-star ensemble cast for the "best foot forward summer sessions", and have some great names coming up, carrying on our promise to bring guests to manchester that rarely venture this way. we begin the summer sessions with the beauty room, who will be playing a dj set next month. kirk digiorgio is a uk techno pioneer, and alongside simon jinadu they have created a beautiful blissed out jazz-tinged summer album, skitting between steely dan and stevie wonder by way of the beach boys and herbie hancock - just check out their myspace for their gargantuan list of influences! the album is due out on august 7th, with a doulbe a-side single preceeding it.

there are more guests coming, and i've booked to around october with festivities a-plenty to come. for those that only visit the site rather than the night, i'm aiming to get back on the blog in a major way over the next few weeks - you have it in writing now, feel free to hold me to it!

about

best foot forward is a weekly hoedown at common, in manchester, england, where you can find residents kevin maguire and mark scholes playing great music to nice people every saturday from 9 til 2. this site is where we can let you know what how we're getting on, what's going on with the night and what's on current listening. if you like what you hear, leave a comment, and if you have any questions then give us a shout.

next guest spot

we're taking a little break from guests whilst we clean-up behind the decks and prepare for something special. keep 'em peeled ...
