put the needle on the rekid

rekid - lost star (mp3)

rekid - legend (mp3)

whilst perusing hype machine for any killer cuts from favourite producers i may have missed i was completly amazed to see only two tracks posted across the mp3 blogosphere for what is far and away the dance album of 2006 so far, rekid's "made in menorca". i immdeiately became worried that such a glorious collection of music could possibly have been criminally overlooked, so i thought it best to bring to your collective attention with two tracks which should open your mind to this fresh sound.

rekid is matt edwards' cosmic k-hole solo show, and home of some of his most impressive work to date. drawing influence from carl craig, j dilla and kenny dixon jr amongst many others, it successfully manages to cast a brand new light on an old sound, and anyone who's had the pleasure to listen through will surely rank it high in their end of year charts. this year's wearemonster? i think so - and i would strongly suggest that you pick it up here.

altough the picture might seem bizzare, it's from his myspace page, so i'm assuming this is matt's cat! having recently become a cat owner myself i'm finally starting to notice how completely endearing (and scarily power-hungry) they are.

bon voyage "dj kryptonite"

wyclef jean - gone til' november (mp3)

friends of bff will be well aware that half our all-star line-up, better known as mark scholes / schoolsy / skoda / dj kryptonite, will be leaving the safe confines of manchester on a european jaunt for, and i quote, "quite a while". it goes without saying he'll be missed around these parts (who's going to play fleetwood mac records now?), and i'm sure you all can wish him best of luck on his travels. as a little send off, i've picked what must be one of the best "adios anthems", wyclef's tear-stained classic. i wonder if there'll be a full orchestra in the airport when mark makes his exit? who knows ... best of luck fella, see you back soon.

please note - even though mark does look slightly camp on this photo (i was very tempted to photoshop the hoegaarden into a cosmopolitan), this is just due to an strange photo moment and bizzare lighting. please do not take this as an indication of his sexuality - although i am noticing high level of links from gaydar pointing to this post...

madonna - get together (james holden remix) (mp3)

this isn't really the sort of thing you would hear me or mark playing on a saturday night, but i've been follwing james holden for quite a while now and feel this is far to special to just pass on. holden has been long envied for his subtle brilliance in the studio, and what's he'd done here to madonna's latest surely ranks up there alongside his best work (which is, in my opinion, his epic remix of nathan fake's "the sky was pink" from 2004). emotional chords, so much texture (the record purposefully pops and crackles in all the right places) and, luckily, just a smidgeon of madonna (two lines is all i can spot), is all lovingly fucked-up into an 8 minute pulse, which i still can't listen to even a dozen times later without getting goosebumps. i can only imagine what it must sound like in a club at 4.30 in the morning - play it loud, and definitely not on your cheap pc speakers!

le spank el coco...

Tuesday, July 4 by Mark

with the recent re-issue of the rinder & lewis album, seven deadly sins, i had one of thoise light bulb moments, where i thought, hey....why not post some of their tracks which appear under various guises....these are the fruits of that 'moment'....

le pamplemousse - le spank

first up is a very chirpy little disco track by le pamplemousse, called le spank.....rinder & lewis do all the dirty work on this one, with them writing, arranging and producing said track....had this track on 7" for donkeys but after a recent visit to NYC, picked up the original avi 12" for 2 bucks......result.....

el coco - love vaccine

second up is a rinder & lewis production in the form of el coco.......the track i have posted is from the mad as hell 12" and is called 'love vaccine'....apperently as well as producing and writing most of the tracks for el coco, they also played all the instruments as well, their music teachers must be so proud......for their full blurb click here....

....and yes, i did spend a very considerable amount of time choosing the most suitable 'spank' picture for this post, didn't want anything to racy for either our younger or older readers......keep on spanking...
