thanks for (hopefully) sticking with us in these times of sparse updates, the christmas run-up has been a bit mental, and with us both working in retail you get used to winding up on the approach to christmas, rather than winding down.
if you've been down to "our do" over the last 12 months, firstly thank you very much, and secondly you probably won't be suprised to find out that common were handed the accolade of "best music" in the manchester evenining news end of year bar awards, which has pleased me and mark immensely.
and it wouldn't be a christmas post without a christmas mp3, one of my favourite artists covering one of my favourite christmas songs -
sufjan stevens - o holy night! (mp3)
see you all in 2006 - where we'll have more guests, more fun, more suprises and hopefully a good few more posts!

nathan fake - silent night (mp3)
a very very quick and dirty post before i head out to see mr juan maclean live in manchester (report to follow .... hopefully), and I thought seeing as though the holiday time was almost upon us I'd drop this little ditty.
for those of you who are unaware of nathan fake, he produced what must be one of the greatest records of this decade so far (the unbelievable "the sky was pink" on border community) and is electronica's phil spector, with a similar wall of sound to boot.
short and sweet. enjoy. and buy this, and more of his records here.

hot chip - just like we (breakdown) (dfa remix) (mp3)
just got hold of this this morning, another top-quality remix from james and tim, taking the best parts of a hot chip monster and stretching it out over 8 and a half minutes in a way only they know how. with synths that echo the juan maclean's superb "give me every little thing", a constant kick-drum groove and the trademarked dfa loose drumming, this is a further feather in the already packed cap for the super-hip new yorkers.
in other dfa related news, i have somehow managed to get hold of a very limited 3 x cd christmas pack, with 2 discs mixed by james murphy and 1 by juan maclean. a tracklisting can be found here, and i'll post more details when i've had a chance to listen to it properly.
oh and happy december 1st! got your tree up yet?
